KS Certification

In Korea, the process of verifying whether a product or service meets specific standards and requirements. This ensures the quality and safety of the product, helping consumers choose reliable products. Products that have received KS certification can use the KS mark, indicating compliance with Korean standards. (Related legal basis: Industrial Standardization Act, Article 15, Paragraph 1)

Workflow

  • Certification Consultation and Application Review
  • Establishment and Notification of Evaluation Plan
  • Product Inspection
  • Sample Submission
  • Review of Examination Results and Deliberation by the Certification Committee
  • Signing of Certification Agreement and Issuance of Certification
  • Step 1 (Certification Consultation and Application Review)

Consultation on Certification-related Details such as Examination Type, Certified Application Items, Schedule, Fees, and Preparation Requirements.

For Certification Body Change Assessment, Prepare and Submit Kiel Research Institute's Certification Body Change Application.

<Documents for Submitting KS Certification Application>
    • ① KS Product Certification Application Form
    • ② Business Registration Certificate, Factory Registration Certificate
    • ③ Documents related to KS Q ISO 9001 Certification (if applicable)
    • ④ Material Management List, Manufacturing (Processing) Equipment Status, Testing (Inspection) Equipment Status
    • ⑤ Foreign KS Certification Factory Survey Form (for overseas factories only)
  • Step 2 (Establishment and Notification of Evaluation Plan)

Review of Examination Schedule, Cost, and Review-Related Cooperative Matters

Examination Schedule: 1 day per item, 2 to 3 items within 2 days, 4 or more items within 3 days, for overseas factories, 2 days per item.

※ In cases where the certification body deems the examination to be significantly difficult, an extension of the examination period, up to 1 day, is possible.

    <Examination Fees>
    • Application Fee - Basic for 1 item: KRW 500,000 / Additional per item: KRW 250,000
    • Factory Inspection Fee - KRW 290,000 (per person per day)
    • Business Trip Expenses - Actual expenses (according to Internal Research Institute regulations)
    • Product Testing Fee - Internal regulations (Inquiries: 1577-9190)
  • Step 3 (Factory Inspection Process)

The assessment team (2 individuals) visits the factory to conduct on-site tours, document reviews, and, if required for certification testing, sample collection.

    <Factory Inspection Preparation Items>
    • ① Company Introduction Materials (Company History/Overview)
    • ② Preparation for On-site Inspection and On-site Initial Testing related to Processes and Products
    • ③ Internal Standard List and QC Process Chart
    • ④ General Overview of the Factory, Product Inventory/Production-Sales/Manufacturing and Testing-Inspection Equipment Status
    • ⑤ Relevant KS Standards and Inspection Criteria (Verify the latest revised edition)
    • ⑥ Various Relevant Records
    • * For a smooth inspection, please prepare the above documents, wireless internet, multi-tap, stationery, etc.
  • Step 4 (Product Inspection)

If the factory inspection is successful, the samples collected by the assessors under the consent of the applicant will be sent to the internal testing facility for product testing.

Even in case of 'non-conformity' in the factory inspection evaluation, product testing can be carried out during the non-conformity correction period upon the request of the certification applicant.

According to the rules of the Enforcement Regulations of the Industrial Standardization Act, if the testing period exceeds 3 months or if certification is required for testing items certified under other laws and the testing meets or exceeds the KS requirements, the quality test for that item can be omitted by submitting a test certificate issued within the past 2 years by a certified testing and inspection agency, indicating the manufacturer's name of the certified target factory.

  • Step 5 (Certification Agreement Signing and Certification Issuance)

When changing the certification body, the original certification must be returned.

Upon approval, the certification agreement is signed, and the certification is issued.

  • The required quantity of samples for certification is one unit, unless specific circumstances necessitate otherwise (additional requests can be made if necessary).
  • Clearly indicate the quantity of samples.
  • Testing will proceed only after the sample has been received and the testing fee has been paid in full.
  • The testing fee is subject to internal regulations of the institute.
