KIEL Institute (formerly Korea Institute of Lighting and ICT, President Hyunhoon Cho) held the opening ceremony for the Green Building Technology Center on July 3rd. The Center, located in Siheung City, aims to contribute to the creation of green buildings by providing a space for institutional testing, certification, research and development, and technical support for the industry in areas such as the efficiency grades of building facilities and construction materials, KS certification, and more.

The Green Building Technology Center covers an area of approximately 472㎡ (143 pyeong) and includes office space for consultations, document issuance, and testing facilities such as thermal resistance testers and air permeability testers for the reliability and environmental testing of construction materials. The Center plans to offer technology consultation and testing analysis services in the construction sector. In the latter half of this year, it plans to operate testing services based on window sets and solar concentrator daylighting.

This expansion into various fields, including construction materials, allows for the provision of reliable services in addition to those in the field of building energy. The newly established Green Building Technology Center is expected to play a crucial role in the widespread adoption of green buildings in South Korea. It is anticipated to enhance the capabilities of the existing institute and contribute to the development of the green building industry with new technologies and know-how.

The Green Energy Division, which operates the Green Building Technology Center, is actively engaged in various tasks such as green remodeling, zero-energy building promotion, and energy welfare projects to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases in the national construction sector. Additionally, the division conducts comprehensive research activities for carbon neutrality.

Hyunhoon Cho, President of KIEL Institute, who attended the event, stated, "As a public research institution operating KS certification and KOLAS, we will make full efforts, both in personnel and resources, to contribute to the proliferation of green buildings.
